Much has been written about the detox diet (detoxification) over the decades. It seems the past ten years, roughly, have seen an explosion of these diets. The basic principle is the same across all of them, and that is to use foods (or liquids) to help your body get rid of toxins. First, we must caution you and suggest you talk to your doctor before embarking on any kind of detox diet. Many people turn to this overall approach when they want to lose weight. While it is possible to achieve that, we feel the loss will be temporary for a variety of reasons. We will talk more about the detox diet in the rest of this article.

Adrenal weakness is a condition that is not widely recognized by traditional Western medicine, but is by holistic doctors. Symptoms of this condition include having low blood pressure and chronic exhaustion. Having chronically high levels of stress are believed to be the cause of this condition. Many holistic doctors place a person being treated for adrenal weakness on a detox diet. This allows the body to eliminate toxins which helps set the stage for higher energy levels and improved health.

It is important to obtain a good amount of information on the specific detox diet you are thinking about. This is because certain ones are more strict and hard. A number of detox diets are pretty merciful and won't create an over abundance of body stress. There is a range of suggested durations for many diets of this kind such as three, five or seven days. You should be in decent to good physical condition if attempting a longer period of time. A fast in which only water, or juice, is consumed has long been known for its ability to flush toxins from the body. But many people do this in a controlled situation like in a retreat where there is supervision and trained personnel to keep an eye on you.

One of the main purposes of the liver is to purify your blood. Since plants have been used for healing, it is not a surprise that herbs can be found that give optimal support to the liver. Many substances are good for cleaning the liver, and some of these are Milk Thistle, which might be the best, and also Burdock root and Chlorella. Detoxification is a necessary activity for the total health of the body, and using herbal materials to improve liver function will be beneficial. The largest organ the body has is the skin, and it is totally involved with detoxification. Keeping the skin clean is important, so a couple times a week you should simply brush it. Removal of dead skin through dry brushing is an important way to open up the pores, and also a good way of blood flow stimulation.

One particular detox diet is known as the Master Cleanse. Another common name for this one is the lemonade diet. This method is more like a fast in which only lemonade with maple syrup and cayenne pepper is consumed. As you can clearly see, this seems pretty hardcore and is not for everyone. One well known entertainer was in the news because she lost weight while on the lemonade diet. However, she later reported that she gained the weight back after coming off of it. But keep in mind this is a detox diet and not a lose weight diet. Also, doctors have warned that women in certain situations should not use this approach. So - see your doctor if this diet appeals to you and be safe, always. If you are interested to explore detox diets, then we strongly recommend you do your research well. Get information from credible sources as much as possible and know exactly what you are doing. The most important consideration is that you use it safely and without adverse side effects.
