Back in the 1950's, along the beaches of California, skateboarding was born as a way for surfers to keep entertained when the waves were uncooperative. They simply took planks, added the wheels from roller skates, and took to riding the landscape. So many different style emerged from the original and Landyachtz longboards are available for each one of them.

Since 1997, they have been manufacturing quality products and have one of the widest and most diverse selections of boards on the market. Skateboards and longboards are made of the same base components, but the modifications to each piece is what makes all the difference when it comes to performing in each style. Changing the size, weight, material and shape can have a major effect on speed, vibration and maneuverability.

Depending on one's chosen style of boarding, the difference is in the details. A shorter cut is great for those who like to use their board to get from one destination to another because it is easier to carry and is great for quick, sharp turns. If the preference is for a more laid back ride without the need for sharp navigation, then choosing a longer one is the way to go.

Every longboarder has specific modifications to their board required to obtain the perfect fit in their chosen style. Turning, balance and spinning are all affected by the length and cut of the deck. The size and hardness of the wheels, as well as the placement and looseness of the trucks will make a difference in stability and smoothness of the ride.

With rising gas prices and elevated environmental concerns, some people like to use their longboards as a form of transportation when traveling short distances. For this method, shorter boards of about 50" in length, featuring loose trucks and a deck with more flexibility for easier control when turning are preferred. The compact cut of a more narrowed nose and a kick-tail make it great for tight corners and changes in direction.

Bombing, or downhill, is generally known as the most difficult, but equally exciting form of riding as speeds upwards of 50 MPH are often achieved. These boards feature short decks of rigid construction with wide set trucks and mid-lengths of around 60-80 inches. Elements of this style make it a bit more dangerous so it is usually attempted only by those with extensive skateboarding experience.

The longest boards on the market are up to 110" long and look very much like surfboards. These are used in the styles of cruising and carving and are most reminiscent of how the sport got it's start all those years ago. Setting the trucks to a mid-range tightness allows the rider to enjoy a leisurely roll over landscapes with gently rolling hills and valleys that simulate the movement of the waves.

Slalom, distance and dancing are just a few of the many other types of boarding styles being enjoyed with new ones being introduced all the time. Making the changes in decks, trucks and wheels give inspiration to enthusiasts to keep challenging themselves and getting creative with their rides. Landyachtz longboards can be configured in any combination to accommodate the needs of most any avid skateboarder.
